Visiting the Small Village Dzitnup

On our first Sunday, we will have the memorable experience of visiting the small pueblo of Dzitnup. On both of my tours with Brent and Marsha we have visited this very small town and I have been touched by the humble, yet happy circumstances of these people. As the bus pulls up, children will come running from all directions to greet us. Because Brent's Tours have been coming to this town for years, you will see these kids and even some adults wearing Roosevelt, Utah, Union High School, BYU, and maybe even BYUI shirts.

On these tours we have encouraged our guests to bring some small gifts to share like toys, school kits/supplies, clothing, etc. These people are very poor and any items will be gratefully received. The space in our luggage used for these items can be replaced with your souvenirs and other items when you return.

You will notice the local adults will line these children up, but once they are turned loose it can be a bit chaotic. However, once the gifts are given out and there is some Mexican style trading amongst the kids and adults, they will happily scurry on their way.

We will then organize into some small groups and be lead to visit some of these families in their homes. There you may be treated with some homemade tortillas or shown some very nice handicrafts like home sewn dresses, clothing and other items.

Of all the activities, this tour stop made the biggest impression on my two children who joined with us on our last trip.
